Installing Drywall at Home
Drywalls are actually kiln dried “gypsum plaster pressed between two sheets of hard paper”. Keeping with the changing needs and advancement of technology fiber glasses are now being used instead of paper. It lends finer finish, durability and moisture protection.
Drywall and plaster are both common materials for building interior walls. But if you are thinking to remodel your home you can try for drywalls. Also known as Gypsum board, drywall is much lighter and easy to install, but it requires good practice. Installing drywalls can be a DIY project. Measure the height and width well before you buy drywall sheets for your home. Drywalls are available in square foot measurement.
A standard drywall sheet is 4 feet wide and 8 feet long. You need joint compound, drywall screws and drywall tapes to join those sheets. It is wise to take advice of a professional about how much of them you need for your project. The requirement varies depending on the size of walls. You need metal corner-beads to join the corners from outside while tapes are to be used for fixing inside corners. Thicker wall needs more screws to fix it. Standard drywall sheets are ½ inch thick but thicker sheets are available as well. Check your local building code for safe and secure construction.
